Technical analysis
The MPU6050 combines a 3-axis accelerometer and a 3-axis gyroscope on a chip costing a few euros, with an embedded DMP (motion processor). For anything to do with orientation, the posture of an arm, motion detection or coarse vibration, it is the entry-level component par excellence — ubiquitous in teaching kits.
For condition monitoring, one must be clear-eyed: its accelerometer noise density (400 µg/√Hz) is about sixteen times that of the ADXL355, and the accelerometer rate tops out at 1 kHz. It tells you a machine is moving, not what is happening in fine detail inside a bearing. It is an excellent inertial fusion sensor (accel+gyro), not a spectral CBM sensor: for that, you switch to the ADXL355.
