Technical analysis

The ADXL345 is the digital "do-it-all" accelerometer: four ranges up to ±16 g, ODR up to 3200 Hz, SPI or I²C, and consumption of a few tens of µA that makes it viable on a battery-powered node. For shock, tilt or threshold-vibration detection at the foot of a machine, it does the job at minimal cost.

Its limit is noise: the datasheet specifies it in LSB rms (not in µg/√Hz density), and it is markedly higher than that of a dedicated CBM sensor. In practice, you detect that "a machine vibrates more than before," but not the fine lines of an incipient bearing fault. As soon as serious spectral analysis is the goal, you move up to the ADXL355. The ADXL345 remains the right choice for broad, cheap instrumentation, or for a first monitoring prototype.
