Technical analysis
LoRa solves a precise problem: sending little data, from very far, on battery for years. With sensitivity down to −148 dBm and a link budget of 168 dB, a Ra-02 node (SX1278) reaches several kilometres in open terrain, through the obstacles of a large industrial site — wastewater plant, tank network, remote-site telemetry.
The trade-off is structural: LoRa = low throughput (a few hundred bytes, not streaming) and a regulated duty cycle on the 433 MHz band. It is not a replacement for Wi-Fi or 4G for large volumes — it is the tool of the sparse, sleeping sensor. For heavy telemetry on a site without a network, 4G (SIM7600G) takes over; for a local wired bus, it is RS-485.
